Mr Sanjay Chaudhri

Mr Sanjay Chaudhri is passionate about minimal invasive surgery and offers laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic surgery for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticular disease. These techniques are associated with better cosmetic result, less postoperative pain and quicker patient recovery. Other surgical interests include the treatment of large complex abdominal hernias, newer operations for haemorrhoids, anal fistulas and fissures.Mr Sanjay Chaudhri was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the University Hospital Leicester in 2009. He completed his undergraduate medical education and post graduate surgical training from the Armed Forces Medical College (University of Pune). He served his commission with the Indian Navy from 1987 to 1998. This included service on warships and naval hospitals as a medical officer and a surgical specialist.In the United Kingdom, his surgical training has included placements in the Academic Colorectal Units at the Freeman Hospital Newcastle upon Tyne, Liverpool Royal Hospital and University Hospital Birmingham. In addition, he has been on Travelling Fellowships to the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre at Mt Sinai Hospital Toronto, Monaldi Hospital Laparoscopic Surgery Centre Naples and the Colorectal Units at Karolinksa University Hospitals Stockholm.He has a strong clinical research background and has presents regularly at various International and National meetings. He is actively involved with surgical trials and is a member of the Cohort Studies subcommittee of the European Society of Coloproctology. As a surgical educator he is the Royal College Surgical Tutor for Leicester General Hospital and has been involved with mentoring surgeons in the UK on the LOREC (Low Rectal Cancer) training programme in the UK and overseas surgical training in Africa. He regularly hosts international colorectal fellows for training.
