After senior fellowship posts in Cardiff and Plymouth, Rathan spent a year as locum consultant in arthroplasty at the world-renowned Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, before he was appointed to his substantive consultant post in University Hospitals Plymouth in 2013. He has an active research interest in hip surgery and trauma with several publications in international journals. He teaches senior trainees, junior doctors and medical students
