Mr Ramesh Sivaraj

I have been a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon since 2010 with a special interest in age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy, retinal vascular disease, intraocular inflammation and cataract surgery. I've completed a number of Medical Retinal Fellowships including fellowships from The Moorfields Eye Hospital, Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. I also completed vitreo-retinal, uveitis and cataract fellowships at Sankara Nethralaya, a prestigious tertiary referral centre in Southern India. The Macula Service I run at Good Hope Hospital won the 'Clinical Excellence Award' by the Macular Society in 2015. I have performed over 2,000 phacoemulsification and small incision cataract surgeries and over 7,000 intravitreal injections including anti-VEGF and the recently NICE approved long-acting steroid implants Ozurdex and Iluvien. I have also carried out Stereotactic Radiotherapy (ORAYA) treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration which compliments the injection therapy. I have been the diabetic lead (2011- 2014) and Clinical Director (2013 - 2017) at the Eye Department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust & leads on research at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull sites. I was the Clinical Lecturer for Ophthalmology at the University of Birmingham (2004 - 2008) and holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Life and Health Sciences at Aston University.
