As I progressed through my Higher Surgical Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics, I have always been thinking of better ways that I would have had liked myself to be trained. Teaching / training doctors to become surgeons is very challenging, exciting and inspiring for me. Maintaining the fine balance between rendering more responsibilities to the trainee whilst at the same time ensuring ‘No Harm’ comes on to the patient. I have been a Trainer/Educational and Clinical Supervisor for the last 4 years and have received the “Trainer of the Year” award for Northern Deanery 2017. I have organised the ‘Foot & Ankle teaching term for the regional orthopaedic trainees with fantastic reviews. The comments for the term have been ‘outstanding term and, to some extent, a new benchmark’. I have now been voted by the Orthopaedic Trainees/Trainers of our region to be the Treasurer for the regional Orthopaedic Teaching Network (ONTEA) I have completed 2 well respected Foot & Ankle Fellowships under Mr Ian Winson, Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Bristol, United Kingdom, and under Mr Chris Blundell, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. I have been practicing as a Foot and Ankle Consultant Surgeon at the Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust since February 2014. The fellowships have empowered me to attain excellence in foot and ankle surgery including ankle arthroplasty, foot and ankle arthroscopy, minimally invasive & complex foot and ankle trauma I was awarded the BOFAS (British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society) Travelling fellowship to the Sigvard Hansen Foot and Ankle Unit in Seattle, USA – May 2014. Successfully completed the AO Trauma fellowship under Prof. Krettek at Hannover, Germany in June 2011.
