Mr Rajan Mohan has over 20 years experience in orthopaedics and trauma, beginning in India (Mumbai) with a three year orthopaedic residency programme, followed by a one year university lecturers appointment. He then trained in the UK in the Yorkshire deanery, where he completed a six year orthopaedic training programme, followed by a year in a fellowship programme in Leeds, specialising in lower limb revision surgery. Mr Mohan has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at East Lancashire NHS Trust for the past nineteen years with consulting room facilities at The Beardwood Hospital. His areas of expertise, apart from trauma. are lower limb arthroplasty - primary and revision hip and knee surgery. He leads the lower limb arthroplasty service for East Lancashire Hospitals. Mr Mohan specialises in some of the newer surgical techniques in lower limb arthritis surgery –surface replacement surgery for the young arthritic hip (Birmingham hip) and unicompartmental knee replacements (Partial knee replacement). He has done the largest series of revision hip and knee replacements in the Trust. His results in both primary and revision surgery are in keeping with national averages. He also performs surgery for hand, shoulder and foot problems. His other area of expertise is arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. He has a keen interest in teaching and training and is a faculty member for the trauma AO courses and an invited guest speaker on the international panel for fracture nailing. He is an international faculty member on the cadaveric training courses for primary and revision arthroplasty. Mr Mohan has been an examiner for the MRCS and FRCS orthopaedic exams for the past ten years. He is currently an examiner for the International FRCS Exam and travels extensively to lecture and conduct courses for the exam.
