GMC reg: 6156641I am a consultant colorectal and robotic surgeon in Edinburgh. I have a broad colorectal and robotic practice covering colorectal cancer, organ preservation approaches to rectal cancer and benign coloproctology. I am a JAG accredited endoscopist with an active diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy practice. Within proctology I perform haemorrhoid banding, HALO and ligasure haemorrhoidectomy, manage skin tags anal fissure and fistula. My general surgical practice is limited to abdominal wall herniae and benign skin lumps and bumps. I undertook surgical training across the South of England and latterly in South-East Scotland. I then completed two consecutive senior colorectal fellowships accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons England, the first focussing on general coloproctology and advanced cancer with Professor Sagar in the John Goligher Colorectal Unit, Leeds with the second a robotic colorectal fellowship in Sunderland. I have also completed travelling fellowships at world leading colorectal centres in USA, Japan, Netherlands and Belgium. I am Editor of British Journal of Surgery focussing on surgical technology and innovation and sit as a member of robotic task force of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. I am the Scottish representative for the Association of Coloproctology of UK and Ireland and member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh General Surgery Surgical Specialty Board. I am passionate about high quality surgical outcomes and believe that surgical training is central to this. I sat at the forefront of colorectal training as trainee President of the Association of Coloproctology of UK and Ireland (2020-21) and was awarded Trainee Coloproctologist of the Year in 2021. Outwith my clinical practice, I have a strong research portfolio receiving my PhD in 2019 and thereafter the prestigious Royal College Hunterian Professorship and the 2023 Scottish Cancer Foundation Prize for work investigating the link between vitamin D and bowel cancer. Please note, I do not manage rectal prolapse or other conditions relating to pelvic floor dysfunction and I do not manage chronic constipation.
