Mr Pavol Surda

As a Consultant ENT and Rhinology Surgeon, I serve as the Clinical Lead of ENT at Guy's and St Thomas’ Hospital and provide private patient services at HCA's London Bridge Hospital and The Shard. I bring a wealth of international experience to managing a wide range of nasal and sinus conditions, including rhinoplasty, snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea, rhinitis, sinusitis, nasal polyps, sinonasal cancer, and advanced skull base surgery. My training includes fellowships in rhinology and facial plastics at St George's University Hospital in London and anterior skull base surgery at the Academic Medical Centre University Hospital in Amsterdam. I also hold a PhD from Amsterdam, enhancing my ability to deliver top-quality care. In my private practice, I am part of the HCA Head and Neck team, specialising in treating sinonasal cancers. I am deeply involved in research and education, teaching on various instructional courses, and speaking at international conferences. I am committed to innovation in minimally invasive rhinology techniques, continually exploring new technologies to improve patient outcomes and reduce recovery times. I am particularly interested in robotic surgery for skull base procedures. My PhD research on "rhinitis in athletes" has been recognised with several academic prizes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was one of the first to describe the loss of smell in patients and played a key role in the tracheostomy service, publishing numerous articles on care standards. My contributions to the field include over 80 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. I am a co-author of SurgTech, a company providing surgical training videos, and I was the editor of the Scott Brown Essentials Rhinology Section. I also hold key positions in professional organisations, showcasing my leadership and commitment to advancing rhinology. I am a member of the executive board of the European Rhinologic Society, the strategic chair of the young European ENT Confederation, and the Honorary Secretary of the Laryngology & Rhinology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine. As a former professional triathlete, I bring a unique perspective to my work, characterised by a drive for excellence and a commitment to fair play, which was recognised by the Olympic Committee with the Fair Play Prize.
