GMC reg: 3683914Mr Neil Haldar is a full time Consultant Urological surgeon. He is the lead urological cancer surgeon and lead in laparoscopic surgery at Buckinghamshire NHS Trust Hospitals in the UK.He graduated from King’s College School of Medicine in 1992 with numerous prizes and was a demonstrator in anatomy at Guy’s Hospital, London before joining the Oxford Junior Surgical training scheme as the number 1 pick of over 200 national and international applicantsIn 1997 he was awarded the Allinson Foundation Research Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons and undertook a Master’s degree at the Nuffield Dept of Surgery in Oxford. His research during this period on the immune-genetics of renal transplant rejection gained national and international recognition with numerous prestigious publications including The Lancet and presentations of this work at major international conferences. His work was also described in a major national newspaper. He was short listed for the Association of Surgeons of GB and Ireland Moynihan prize and was nominated as The Royal Society of Medicine and GlaxoSmithKline trainee of the year in 2009.Mr Haldar went on to complete his higher surgical urology training in Oxford following which he undertook further visiting fellowships to the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio and Nantes, France to develop his specialist interest in laparoscopic urology.In 2005 he was appointed as Clinical Lead in laparoscopic urology to Buckinghamshire NHS Trust. As one of the nominated pelvic cancer surgeons for the Thames Valley Cancer Network he has performed over 800 nerve-sparing open and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer and radical cystectomy with bladder reconstruction for bladder cancer with excellent continence rates in both procedures. He works closely with a multidisciplinary team that in addition to surgery also offers radical radiotherapy, brachytherapy and chemotherapy. Mr Haldar has also performed over 600 laparoscopic renal and adrenal surgeries. In 2008 he became one of the first surgeons in the UK to perform single-incision laparoscopic nephrectomy and laparoscopic pyeloplasty. In 2017 he was one of the first in UK to regularly perform the spacerOAR procedure. He has published widely on all aspects of urology and his current main area of research is Enhanced Recovery Surgery.He has sat on numerous prestigious committees including at The Royal Society of Medicine, The Royal College of Surgeons, and at The Oxford School of Surgery where he is an examiner. He is Specialist Advisor to National Library for Health, Editorial Advisory Board for Royal Society of Medicine Journal of Current Medical Literature in Urology, Editorial board of International Journal of Clinical Reviews and Editorial board of Men’s Health for Specialists.Away from work Mr Haldar is a keen sportsman having climbed to over 6400m peak in the Himalayas, cycled the United Kingdom both North to South and West to East, cycled from Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh city.
