Mr Neil Fairbairn

Mr Fairbairn graduated from the University of Dundee Medical School. His plastic surgery training took place in Edinburgh and Glasgow. During this time, he completed a 2-year period of research at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This work focused on novel methods of peripheral nerve reconstruction and formed the basis of his MD research degree awarded by the University of Edinburgh. Towards the end of training, Mr Fairbairn completed an accredited interface fellowship in hand surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman hospital in Newcastle. After completing training, Mr Fairbairn completed an additional 1-year advanced microsurgery fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow and is on the specialist register for plastic surgery. As a substantive consultant at Glasgow Royal infirmary and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Mr Fairbairn specialises in orthoplastic limb reconstruction, sarcoma, perineal reconstruction and skin cancer. In the private sector, Mr Fairbairn maintains a specialist interest in aesthetic breast surgery, facial rejuvenation, body contouring surgery and skin cancer. He accepts instruction for medicolegal reports and is a member of the Expert Witness Institute. He has a keen interest in education and teaching and is currently director of professional standards at the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow. He is a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and is a regular reviewer for the journal of plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.
