Mr Michael Tappin

Mr Michael Tappin qualified from St Marys Hospital Medical School in 1990 before undertaking fellowships in corneal and refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, Australia. He became a consultant in 2000. Mr Tappin works in the NHS at the Royal Surrey and is a founding member and director of laser eye surgery clinic group, LaserVision, with private practice clinics at Nuffield Health Woking Hospital, BMI Mount Alvernia Hospital, Spire Portsmouth Hospital and 46 Wimpole Street. Mr Tappin offers the full range of vision correction procedures as well as laser cataract surgery, a minimally invasive procedure performed using a newly developed state-of-the-art laser which eliminates the use of a blade. He also performs the new Sulcoflex DUET Lens Exchange – an adjustable solution to correct vision at all distance and the first to offer lifelong reversibility. In 2005 he became the first surgeon in the UK to perform an endothelial cell transplantation now known as DMEK. The pioneering technique is a less invasive surgery to treat fuchs dystrophy and endothelial cell failure. He also recently published a new surgical technique for the treatment of pterygium.
