Mr Matthew Edmunds

Mr Edmunds is a consultant ophthalmologist with a particular interest in cataract surgery and additional specialist training in oculoplastic (eyelid), lacrimal (tear system) and orbital (eye socket) disease. Originally from South Wales, he graduated from the University of Birmingham with Honours in 2002. He initially trained in general and emergency medicine in Auckland, New Zealand and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2006. His ophthalmic training (2007-2017) was undertaken throughout the West Midlands and he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2015. From 2010 to 2013 he completed laboratory-based research into Thyroid Eye Disease (also known as Graves' Orbitopathy), gaining his doctorate (PhD) in 2015. Mr Edmunds completed advanced sub-specialist training in oculoplastic surgery at Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, and further oculoplastics fellowships at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He is a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS) and the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS). Mr Edmunds always endeavours to provide a high-quality service to his patients, aiming to utilise his experience and training to ensure that the care he provides serves their best interests.
