Mr Mark Simmons

I studied at the University of Oxford school of medicine graduating in 1993.  As part of my training there I undertook a BA in Physiological Sciences as well as the medical qualifications BM, BCh.  I also took my MA (Oxon)  I undertook junior house jobs in Northampton and Leeds. I undertook a 10 month post as junior lecturer at the Medical school of the University of Manchester teaching anatomy to the first and second year students, taking the first part of my FRCS examinations that year. I undertook general surgical and ENT SHO jobs in Manchester which culminated in me attaining the FRCS( with otolaryngology)  qualification, passing at first attempt in 1998. I then undertook my 6 year Higher surgical training programme in Manchester and the Northwest Deanery, working in all 3 of the Manchester teaching hospitals and at The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, as well as more peripheral hospitals.  I successfully took my 'part 3'  FRCS( ORL-HNS) after 4 years of that training course, again passing at first attempt. During my time in higher training I developed an interest in facial plastic surgery and won the prestigious European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery travelling scholarship to allow Fellowship experience in FPRS.  This was one of only 2 such fellowships awarded across Europe that year.  I spent 3 months in Amsterdam and Stuttgart in centres of excellence for nose and ear reconstructive surgery.  I also undertook a 6 week observational Fellowship in Portland ,Oregon, USA with expert leaders in the field of FPRS and Rhinology. I Passed the US Board of FPRS examination in 2005 and have since become European Board Certified in Facial Plastics and Reconstructive surgery. In 2005 I was appointed to a Consultant post working between 2 Trusts ( one  major teaching centre and one DGH) specifically to lead the Nasal Reconstructive service at the Teaching Hospital. I undertake a general, adult and paediatric, ENT surgery practise in the NHS with a specialist interest in Rhinology, nasal reconstruction and FPRS. In the private sector I undertake a general ENT practice, especially in rhinology, and offer cosmetic surgery for the nose and ear.
