GMC reg: 2849450I am a paediatric surgeon with a special interest in paediatric urology. I qualified from Leeds University in 1983 with a Distinction in Anatomy. After training in General Surgery in Leeds and in London at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, I became a tutor in Paediatric Surgery at the Leeds General Infirmary. I completed a higher degree for work investigating urothelial cell biology, whilst at the Cancer Research Institute at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, and was awarded 1st prize for presenting my work at the Urological Research Society in January 1993, London. I completed my Paediatric Surgical training in Leeds and Manchester and undertook a Pediatric Urology Fellowship at the Clark-Morrison Children's Urological Center, Los Angeles, USA in 1996. I was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff in 1997 and retired from the NHS on 3rd June 2019. At UHW I developed services for paediatric urology including urodynamics, neuropathic bladder and renal tract stone disease. There were no paediatric continence nurse specialists in Cardiff when I arrived and I was instrumental in progressing key appointments and developing a team approach to the care of paediatric patients with complex urological needs. I had a close working relationship with colleagues in paediatric nephrology, paediatric radiology, paediatric gastroenterology and paediatric anaesthesia, and this collaboration within a multidisiplinary team I believe led to improved patient outcomes. I continue to pursue academic interests and help strengthen standards of postgraduate education. I am an examiner for the FSCFE Urology International examinations in Paediatric Urology. I am a member of the Commissioning Group for Foreskin Condition, The Royal College of Surgeon of England. Awards received: Distinction in Anatomy MBChB 1983 1st prize for best presentation at the Urological Research Society, January 1993, London Thesis awarded - Master of Surgery, Leeds 1995 Ethicon Travelling Fellowship, Royal College of Surgeons England 1996 Qualifications: MBChB Leeds University 1983 ChM Leeds University 1994 FRCS (Paeds) Intercollegiate Specialty Board 1996 Additional training: Pediatric Urology Fellowship Clark-Morrison Children's Urological Center, Los Angeles, USA 1996 Publications: I have published 36 peer reviewed articles in relation to paediatric surgery and paediatric urology and has written 10 book chapters on paediatric urology topics, as well publishing several comprehensive review articles within paediatric urology.
