GMC reg: 2786830Mr Stevens is a specialist in refractive, cataract, lens and corneal surgery with a world-renowned reputation for clinical knowledge, expertise and results. He is professionally recognised for more than 25 years of innovative work in the development of laser eye and cataract surgery. Julian Stevens won a scholarship to study Medicine at Merton College, University of Oxford, where he was then awarded a Postmaster scholarship. He graduated top of his year and was awarded the Oxford University Prize in Medicine for the top First Class Honours Degree. Further clinical training at the University of Cambridge He continued his clinical medical training at Clare College, University of Cambridge and at the Cambridge Medical School, being awarded distinction. Specialist training and higher specialist training was performed at the Oxford Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. After completion of general ophthalmic training, he undertook two years of sub-specialist training, with Fellowships in lens/cataract, corneal and then a specialist fellowship in refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Royal College of Ophthalmologists England certified - The Royal College sets the standards for professional practice and champions excellence in ophthalmology. Julian Stevens has been an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and holds the certification of the Royal College in laser refractive surgery. Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital - Julian Stevens completed training at Moorfields Eye Hospital and was appointed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in 1996. He was the first Director of Refractive Surgery at the hospital. International source of expertise Regarded as an expert opinion leader, Mr Stevens has published peer reviewed papers on refractive and cataract surgery and has been a deputy editor of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He became Honorary Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital and then left Moorfields in 2022, joining Centre for Sight, where he practices as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in full-time private practice.

Special interests include laser refractive surgery (laser eye surgery) since early trials in 1990. He was involved in the development of wavefront-guided IntraLASIK (LASIK) and wavefront-guided surface excimer laser treatments. Mr Stevens has a special interest in ultra-fast (femtosecond) lasers and was involved with developing femtosecond laser cataract and lens surgery, and advanced intraocular lens implants to maximise the benefits of the increase in precision. He was involved with the development of the Femtis(TM) lens implant. Mr Stevens holds international patents in excimer laser and femtosecond laser technology and advanced intraocular lens implant design. Mr Stevens is a Consultant to the R&D department of Saar Surgical Inc, Intelon Inc, Wavefront Dynamics Inc. and Johnson & Johnson. He performs ICL phakic lens implantation.
