Mr Hyam is a Consultant Comprehensive Spinal, Brain, Craniofacial & Focused Ultrasound Neurosurgeon at the world-renowned National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Queen Square. He was also President to the Royal Society of Medicine's Clinical Neurosciences Section 2021/2022. He is a focused ultrasound specialist for patients with tremor. He is also neurosurgeon to the UCLH Adult Craniofacial multidisciplinary service treating head shape deformity, temporal hollowing, adult craniosynostosis and head contour repair after neurosurgery. His specialist expertise includes: * Tumours such as meningioma * Focused ultrasound for tremor * Gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery for brain tumours, trigeminal neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia * Treatment of spinal stenosis and disc prolapse within the neck and lower spine, back pain and sciatica * Minimally-Invasive (Key Hole) Disc Surgery * Artificial Cervical Disc Replacement * Craniofacial reconstruction and cranioplastic surgery * Robot-assisted deep brain stimulation implants for Parkinson’s disease, tremor, facial pain and dystonia Mr. Hyam received America’s Congress of Neurological Surgeons’ Resident Prize for Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery, awarded in Washington, DC. He published his first scientific paper whilst studying at Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons in Manhattan, New York. He was awarded a PhD from Oxford University in Neurosurgery, and a Diploma in Microscopic Neurosurgery from The Yasargil Neurosurgery Laboratory of the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He is an invited specialist advisor to NICE on behalf of the British Society for Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery, providing expert guidance on treatments across the country for conditions such as headache, facial pain, movement disorders, and spinal pain. Mr. Hyam was awarded the prestigious Arris & Gale Lectureship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The lectureship was established in the year 1646 and is still awarded in stiff competition to surgeons at the height of their career. Previous recipients include Nobel Laureate Sir Alexander Fleming. Mr. Hyam’s neurosurgery research has been published in prestigious international journals including The Lancet, Nature Reviews Neurology, and The Lancet Neurology.
