I qualified from Nottingham University Medical School in 1990. I taught anatomy at Leeds University Medical School from 1991-2. I moved to Manchester Royal Infirmary in 1992, where I completed my basic surgical training. Higher surgical training in orthopaedics was on the North West Rotation, undertaken at hospitals in and around Manchester from 1996-2001. My fellowship year comprised of a six month arthroplasty fellowship at Wrightington Hospital and 6 months with distinguished knee specialist Dr John Bartlett in Melbourne, Australia.
