Mr Ian Beckingham

I have been a Consultant laparoscopic (keyhole) surgeon for 25 years and have developed a specialist practice in Biliary (Gallstone) disease and Laparoscopic (Keyhole) hernia surgery My main NHS base is Nottingham University Hospital (Queens Medical Centre) I specialise in Upper Gastrointestinal procedures performing over 200 cholecystectomies (gallbladder removals) and 200 Inguinal / Paraumbilical hernia repairs per year I have pioneered laparosocpic liver and pancreatic cancer surgery in the UK and have a national reputation for keyhole surgery for splenectomy I am a former President of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS), and a member of the Councils of ASGBI and Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (ALSGBI). I am currently an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) Examination board. I am leading an RCS Quality Improvement program in improving emergency cholecystectomy rates in UK hospitals, and a joint surgical lead in a £3.5 million research study into the role of MRI scanning in investigation of patients undergoing cholecystectomy (the Sunflower study) I have written a number of texts on Gallbladder and hernia surgery and am regularly invited to speak at National and International Surgical conferences on Laparoscopic procedures and data collection for surgeons
