I am a Consultant Gynaecologist based in the North East of England. I specialise in laparoscopic (keyhole) gynaecological surgery and ambulatory (“office”) gynaecology, where patients have procedures performed while awake as an outpatient, using miniaturised equipment. I began my medical training in Yorkshire and moved back to the North East to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. My advanced gynaecological training was in open and laparoscopic (keyhole) abdominal surgery. I now specialise in performing surgery for conditions such as endometrial cancer (cancer of the lining of the womb), heavy menstrual bleeding, ovarian cysts and pelvic pain. The majority of surgery I perform is laparoscopic, which is associated with reduced bleeding and time in hospital. I have introduced day case hysterectomy into my practice, allowing patients to be discharged the same day as surgery to recover in their own home. I perform diagnostic and operative hysteroscopies, where a fine camera is passed through the cervix to allow the lining of the womb to be visualised, as well as biopsies to be taken and polyps or fibroids to be removed. I also insert Mirena coils and perform laparoscopic female sterilisations.
