I have been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon for 27 years. I graduated from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1983 and was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Lower limb surgeon at Hope Hospital Salford, a teaching hospital, in 1996. During my training I undertook a two-year research fellowship at the Centre for Hip Surgery at Wrightington Hospital, UK. In 1995 after 2 years in full time research I was awarded the higher degree of Master of Surgery (ChM) and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery. Approximately 30% of my practice is foot and ankle surgery, 50% knee surgery and 20% Hip surgery. In April 2013 I elected to provide NHS services solely in the independent sector basing his surgical practice at the Ramsay Oaklands Hospital in Salford. Since leaving the formal NHS I have maintained a busy outpatient and Orthopaedic lower limb practice. Foot and Ankle. I have extensive expertise in soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, deformities of the foot and ankle as well as painful foot and toenail conditions. I perform keyhole surgery of the ankle and great toe in addition to corrective surgery for midfoot and hindfoot. I have considerable expertise in complex foot disorders and revision foot surgery; approximately 30% of my referrals are foot and ankle. Knee. I have in depth expertise in elective knee surgery, I offer arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, total knee joint replacement surgery and surgery for recurrent patella dislocation. I am one of a relatively small group of surgeons trained in current methods for the treatment of joint surface injury including chondrocyte grafting procedures (relining of the knee joint surface). Hip and Pelvis. I have more than 27 years experience in hip surgery as a Consultant. I am one of a small number of surgeons in the UK who perform arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery of the hip joint, beneficial in the diagnosis and treatment of painful hip disorders and injuries in young adults. Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Surgery. I have 27 years of experience as a Consultant performing total hip and total knee replacements. I utilise prostheses which both have excellent long term results.. My published National Joint register data for primary joint replacement surgery is in line with national norms.
