GMC reg: 4430777Mr Guy Thorburn is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. From 2010 to 2017 he was a substantive Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital and at the St Andrew's Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery in Broomfield, Essex. Mr Thorburn was educated at Charterhouse School before qualifying from Nottingham University Medical School. His initial surgery and plastic surgery training was in the Midlands and North-West before moving to London for his Specialist Registrar training in Plastic Surgery. His paediatric plastic surgery training was at Great Ormond Street and St Andrew's Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery before undertaking the National Interface Training Fellowship in Cleft Lip and Palate at Birmingham Children's Hospital. After completing his Specialist Training in Plastic Surgery, he undertook an Aesthetic Fellowship at the London Clinic with Ear Nose & Throat and Plastic Surgery trainers. He also has an interest in medical ethics and law, with an MA from the University of Manchester Law School. He sat on the General Medical Council's Fitness to Practise panels from 2003 to 2013. He is currently a member of the Oxford University Hospitals Clinical Ethics Advisory Group. Previously he was a member of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Clinical Ethics Committee. His main research interests are in Cleft Lip and Palate, Vascular Anomalies and Clinical Outcomes. The Health Foundation awarded him a patient-safety and quality-improvement grant for his work on improving clinical outcomes. He regularly publishes journal articles and book chapters as well as presenting at scientific meetings. Mr Thorburn enjoys being a trainer for Cleft and plastic surgery trainees from the UK and overseas. He is a supervisor for National Interface Training Fellows in cleft lip and palate. He regularly lectures on undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as FRCS exam preparation for senior trainees. He is on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery and on their register of recognised Trainers. His professional memberships include the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain & Ireland; the Institute of Medical Ethics; and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is the Chair of the Surgical Clinical Excellence Network of the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain & Ireland.
