Appointed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in 2000, Mr Gorman’s NHS sessions are undertaken at the University Hospital of Wales and his private clinics at Spire Cardiff Hospital. In addition to general ophthalmology and high volume cataract surgery, Mr Gorman’s specialist interests are the surgical treatment of vitreoretinal disorders and diabetic eye disease. Mr Gorman qualified from Leeds University Medical School with Honours in 1998. His further training in Ophthalmology was in Leeds, Nottingham and South Africa. He also completed advanced subspeciality training with a Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery. Mr Gorman is fully registered with the General Medical Council and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Additionally he is a Member of the British Medical Association, British and Irish Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons (BEAVRS). Mr Gorman is a surgical teacher and lectures to Ophthalmic Trainees, General Practitioners, Optometrists and Nurses.

Mr Gorman is a highly experienced ophthalmic surgeon who manages a full range of general ophthalmic medical conditions. His specialist interests are in Cataract Surgery, Diabetic Eye Disease and the surgical treatment of Vitreoretinal disorders. The most common surgical procedures undertaken by Mr Gorman include: Cataract (day case surgery: small incision phaco cataract extraction plus intraocular lens). Vitreoretinal Surgery, treating conditions affecting the back of the eye including: Retinal Detachment, Retinal Tear, Macular Hole, Epiretinal Membrane, foreign body removal, severe trauma, sport related injury, Diabetic Retinopathy, Vitreous problems. Macular degeneration. Provides regional service for the ongoing management of complications of cataract surgery. Please note that major vitreoretinal surgery (e.g. retinal detachment, macular hole, diabetic surgery) is performed at University Hospital Wales not Spire Hospital as supra specialist equipment and staff are required.
