GMC reg: 6076898Mr Christopher Challand has been a consultant colorectal surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals since 2016. He specialises in minimally-invasive (laparoscopic) bowel resection surgery but also has an interest in incisional hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He is a JAG-certified lower gastrointestinal endoscopist. He provides a comprehensive range of investigations and treatments for common abdominal and colorectal conditions including rectal bleeding and bowel disturbance. His undergraduate training was at the University of Bristol before working through the south-west and completed his higher surgical training in the East of England Deanery at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. He has a keen interest in colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and works in close partnership with the Sheffield Cancer and Gastroenterology IBD service. He offers minimally invasive surgery with the avoidance of stoma formation in the majority of operations. He was the lead researcher on clinical studies into improving the outcomes for patients undergoing major colorectal bowel resections and is widely published in the field of colorectal and general surgery. He is currently the Clinical lead for General Surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Year Qualified 2003
