My undergraduate medical training was at St Bartholomews' Hospital Medical College, London, followed by training at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology with Prof David Taylor at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. I underwent further strabismus fellowships in Liverpool and Sheffield. I was appointed Consultant paediatric ophthalmologist to Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in 1995 and helped build it into a large tertiary training and referral centre for paediatric ophthalmology. I returned to Great Ormond Street in 2016. I have published over 110 peer reviewed papers, 12 book chapters and a text book (with Scott Lambert of Stanford University) on congenital and paediatric cataract management. I was head of the Paediatric ophthalmology service at Great Ormond Street for 7 years, chair of the Paediatric Sub-committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmology for 5 years and I am currently President of the British and Irish Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Association (BIPOSA). I have served on the AAPOS ophthalmic genetic group, the board of the European Paediatric Ophthalmology Society (EPOS) and have given many medal lectures. I have s contributed over the last 20 years to paediatric ophthalmology workshops at AAPOS, AAO, WOC and the RCOphth. My main clinical interests are paediatric cataract and inherited eye disorders. With the genetic team in Manchester led by Graeme Black, I helped in the development of a genomic panel for improving diagnosis in childhood cataract. I look after all children from birth until 18 years of age.
