GMC reg: 3636596I am a senior orthopaedic surgeon in Scotland specialising exclusively in foot and ankle surgery, my NHS base is Glasgow Royal Infirmary, a large University Teaching Hospital. All my elective and trauma workload consists of foot and ankle related cases only. I am based in a tertiary referral centre and get referrals from consultant colleagues from the whole of West of Scotland and beyond. I am one of the few foot and ankle surgeons in Scotland who do total ankle replacements . My workload includes a significant proportion of rheumatoid and diabetic foot disorders and deformity corrections. Educational activities: I regularly teach medical students from The University of Glasgow. I was on the panel of examiners for the Intercollegiate MRCS examination between 2003-2013. I had served on the Intercollegiate Board for the FRCS Exam representing the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow from 2011-2014. I was an examiner for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) intercollegiate examinations between 2007-2017. I contribute significantly to teaching and training of higher surgical trainees in the region and help arrange the foot and ankle teaching for the regional orthopaedic training programme every three years. I have contributed significantly to the education of nursing and ESP Podiatry practitioners in the unit and also in Greater Glasgow as a whole of various aspects of foot and ankle surgery care.Foot and Ankle surgery. Nationally, I am an active founder member of Foot and Ankle Scotland (FASt), a multidisciplinary group of practitioners caring for patients with foot and ankle problems. I lead on a number of issues related to foot and ankle surgery in Scotland and sit on the Podiatry Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh looking at developing Podiatric surgery in Scotland. I am also an active member of British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) and am a member of the podiatry sub-committee of the society. Teaching and Training: I have arranged and run a number of educational meetings and courses in foot and ankle surgery and surgical techniques and also a faculty member on a number of courses regionally, nationally and internationally. I have been running a successful fellowship programme in Foot and ankle surgery at Glasgow Royal Infirmary since 2008 which attracts fellows from around the UK and abroad. Research: We have an active research and audit programme and we have written a number of original articles on several aspects of foot and ankle surgery and presented in various national and international meetings.I have led a number of innovative developments in foot and ankle surgery in Scotland; extending the role of day case surgery, pioneering the use of regional anaesthesia for foot and ankle surgery and ankle replacements, are all examples.
