Mr Atul Kusanale

Mr Atul Kusanale is a Consultant Head, Neck & Reconstructive surgeon within the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department in Poole Hospital Foundation Trust. He is registered as a specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon with the GMC and the GDC register. He has a dental post graduate degree and he graduated in Medicine from St Georges University of London in 2006.He is an UK accredited surgeon and has won awards in his training. Mr Kusanale has an expertise in the management of mouth and jaw cancers, salivary gland diseases, skin cancers and sentinel lymph node biopsy . He has presented in the National and International conferences on reconstructive surgery, facial reanimation surgery and other aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has a special interest in the diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of patients with head and neck cancer including skin cancers. He has used virtual planning and 3D technology in the management of patients requiring craniofacial implants, dental implants, bone grafting, sinus lift procedure with a patient centred approach. He was ranked first in the selection process for a highly competitive national head and neck interface Fellowship. He completed this fellowship in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow which gave him advanced training in the ENT, plastic surgery and oral maxillofacial surgery. He has successfully set up the Dorset Sentinel lymph node service for head and neck cancer and melanoma. Mr Kusanale has completed fellowships in Temporomandibular Joint Surgery in Vienna , Orthognathic surgery in South Africa with Professor Renyeke and Facial re-animation surgery . He undertook Sialendoscopy training in Geneva for salivary gland disease. Mr Kusanale has taught as a lecturer both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and continues to pursue teaching the higher surgical trainees in Maxillofacial surgery .He is a faculty member for head and neck reconstruction cadaveric course at the Royal College of Edinburgh, where he teaches free flap surgery. He has conducted training workshops for facial reconstructive surgery and head and neck cancer in developing countries and facilitated collaborative work in South Asia. He was a member of the selection committee to appoint head and neck fellows in the UK. Mr Kusanale has presented at regional, national and international conferences and published in national and international peer reviewed journals. His research interest is in head and neck cancer. He enjoys spending time with his family. He is passionate about the wildlife conservation. He loves running and cricket, when time allows.

Specialist interests include- Urgent diagnosis ,investigation and management of lumps in the head and neck region. Diagnosis and management of precancer lesions in mouth including laser treatment. Reconstruction of jaws, nose and face following surgery and trauma. Facial re-animation surgery for paralysis Surgery for skin cancers and reconstruction of post MOHS defects. Dental implants, bone grafts, sinus lifts and other craniofacial implants. Cosmetic surgery and non-surgical interventions for facial cosmesis. Jaw joint pain and surgery for TMJ ( Including arthrocentesis), Cerezen, open surgery. Salivary gland diseases and minimal access surgery for diagnosis and treatment. Wisdom teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaw Dental and maxillofacial trauma management and deformity surgery. Nerve repair following numb lip and tongue.
