Mr Ashley Costin-Brown is an award-winning, Fellowship trained, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in hip and knee surgery. Mr Costin-Brown graduated from the University of Glasgow with Honours in 2011 and completed his early training in London at major centres including St Mary’s Hospital and King’s College Hospital. His specialist Orthopaedic Training took place on the Oswestry/Stoke rotation, where he trained at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital. In 2020, he achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and was honoured with the prestigious Sir Walter Mercer medal, also known as the “gold medal.” This distinguished award recognised him as the most outstanding candidate among all UK surgeons who undertook the exam throughout the calendar year. In 2021, Mr Costin-Brown underwent Fellowship training in the world-renowned Sunnybrook Holland Centre in Toronto, Canada, where he gained further international experience in hip and knee replacement surgery. He currently holds an NHS Consultant post at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, where he has both elective and major trauma commitments. Mr Costin-Brown specialises in hip and knee replacements, including partial replacements, revision surgeries, and fractures around hip and knee replacements, as well as keyhole surgery (arthroscopy) of the knee. He uses tried and tested implants, equipped with high-performing bearings, which allows patients to maintain high levels of activity after surgery. In addition, he routinely employs enhanced recovery techniques to optimise recovery and function after surgery and reduce hospital stays. Passionate about teaching and mentoring, Mr Costin-Brown enjoys training the next generation of surgeons and maintains a role within the Oswestry training programme. He supervises Junior Doctors of all levels, as well as teaching medical students. He is involved in research and is published in the field of hip and knee replacement. Born and raised in the West Midlands, Mr Costin-Brown currently resides here with his wife and three children. Outside of his professional pursuits, he is a sports enthusiast with a background in representing national and regional teams in football and cricket. His current hobbies include football, skiing, cycling, and enjoying the outdoors with his family and Alsatian companion.
