Mr Arthur Stephen

Arthur Stephen is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and the Chief Medical Officer for Nuffield Health. He was the Deputy Executive Medical Director and the Divisional Medical Director for Surgery at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (previously Royal Derby Hospital) between 2012-2022. He was trained at University College & Middlesex Hospitals School of Medicine (UCL) qualifying in 1993. His specialist orthopaedic training included higher surgical training in Nottingham (Mid Trent region) Brisbane Australia and a short sabbatical in Exeter, UK. He has been Vice Chair of the Orthopaedic Committee of the British Orthopaedic Association and a Trustee on council of the British Orthopaedic Association and still serves as faculty on their Future Leaders Programme. As well as a 20 year consultant experience in hip and knee surgery, he is a keen educator and has chaired and lectured on many national and international courses from hip arthroplasty techniques, hip approaches and periprosthetic fractures (with AOUK). He helped establish the Royal Derby Hospital as a reference centre for training using the Exeter hip replacement system. From March 2023, Mr Stephen was appointed as the Chief Medical Officer for Nuffield Health with a remit spanning 37 hospitals and 114 fitness and wellbeing centres.
