GMC reg: 4083711I graduated with Honours at the University of Florence in 1988. I specialised in Otorhinolaryngology before moving to the University of Parma for a second Specialisation in Plastic Surgery, again with Honours. I pursued specialisation Fellowships in Bristol, Belfast and Amsterdam and settled in Bristol as Consultant Plastic Surgeon to the North Bristol Trust (appointed 1999) I have been the Lead Plastic Surgeon in a team specialising in the treatment of Head and Neck Cancer and including a period as Specialty Director of Plastic Surgery (2006-2011). For over a decade I have been Lead Clinician for Skin Oncology in North Bristol Trust and chairman of the Skin Cancer Specialist MDT. I am one of a handfull of surgeons in Bristol with a major practice in the treatment of metastatic Skin Cancer and with extensive expertise in treating complex Skin Cancer and Melanoma of the Head and Neck. I am medical advisor, trustee and former Chairman of SCaRF (Skin Cancer Research Fund), Head and Neck Oncology is a subspeciality which requires close collaboration of a number of specialists, including ENT, Orthodontists, prosthetists, Dermatologists, Opthalmologists, Plastic surgeons and others. Over these past 24 years it has been my achievement to integrate these various specialist services in Bristol thus bringing about a significant improvement of the management of Head and Neck Cancer in the region. This has depended, in large part, on my fostering close working relationships and, in many cases, personal friendships, with numerous other specialists. As Lead Clinician in Skin Cancer in NBT and Chair of the Skin Cancer Specialist MDT, I have developed a Combined Dermatology/Plastics skin cancer sevice. For the first time in Bristol we have achieved combined clinics and an integrated booking system for out patient appointments and for skin cancer patients. I introduced a service of Elecro-Chemotherapy serving the South West. This is a new treatment for skin metastases from Melanoma, Head and Neck Cancer and Breast Cancer. I am a member of the International Network Sharing Practice in Electro-Chemo-Therapy and remain actively involved at international level in the research and development of this treatmen . I am co-author of some 47 publications in peer reviewed journals. I have developed a protocol for management and early discharge patients treated with lymph node dissection for metastatic skin cancer resulted in an audited major improvement of patient care. I am heavily involved in teaching SpRs for FRCS Plastic exam. I train and mentor them in Head and Neck surgery and Skin cancer and have introduced and established the service of sentinel lymph-node biopsy for melanoma in Bristol. I have been involved in humanitarian missionary work in Africa and I am in the process of registering a charity with the scope of providing plastic surgery services and training to local doctors in Africa. I am a member of the Editorial Board of JPRAS.
