Mr Alvan Pope

Mr Alvan Pope is Consultant Urologist at Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals in Middlesex for NHS work with sessions at Charing Cross Hospital, Imperial College NHS Trust. Private patients are seen at BMI Bishops Wood Hospital in Northwood, Middlesex. He trained at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London, qualifying in 1980. He entered specialty training in urology in 1987 at the St Peters Group of Urological Hospitals, now part of UCLH. He carried out research into bladder cancer at UCLH, spent a year as a clinical fellow in Melbourne and was appointed as a consultant urologist at Hillingdon Hospital, with academic sessions at Charing Cross Hospital in 1995. He specialises in urological oncology, particularly in prostate cancer, and in the management of urinary tract stone disease. He has been active in clinical management at Hillingdon Hospital over many years including holding the positions of lead urology clinician, clinical director for surgery, Trust lead cancer clinician, and associate medical director.

Prostate cancer diagnostics, with multiparametric MRI offered as first investigation to all patients potentially suitable for radical treatment if prostate cancer were confirmed. Biopsy techniques offered include transperineal targeted biopsies under local anaesthetic or sedation, at Mount Vernon Hospital Assessment of male voiding symptoms and management of benign prostate conditions. Hillingdon Hospital has a busy urinary tract stone disease practice for both emergency and elective patients
