GMC reg: 6052680I offer a service encompassing general surgery and surgery for abdominal and retroperitoneal sarcoma (soft tissue tumours). In addition to this, my NHS practice also includes kidney transplantation. After qualifying with honours from the University of Leicester in 2002 I undertook surgical training in the East Midlands and latterly at the world-renowned Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. I then worked for a year at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle as a Consultant General Surgeon specialising in hepatobiliary and transplant surgery. I took up my current post in Leeds in 2016. My particular areas of interest are laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and surgery for soft tissue tumours arising in the abdomen or retroperitoneum. I am an experienced and advanced laparoscopic surgeon, having performed over 600 keyhole operations. These range from removal of kidneys for transplant (live donor nephrectomy) through to removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) and repair or abdominal wall hernias. My abdominal and retroperitoneal sarcoma practice is one of the largest in the north of England, performing in excess of 30 procedures per year for this rare condition. These often require removal of adjacent organs including kidney and bowel. I also specialise in the treatment of desmoid tumours of the abdominal wall; usually performing surgery in conjunction with a plastic surgeon. In my NHS role I am the service lead for renal transplant and the clinical governance lead for hepatobiliary and transplant surgery. Within this remit I have responsibility for ensuring that the appropriate systems are in place to ensure patient safety and maintain quality of care. I also have a strong research interest and during my training, I spent two years undertaking research towards my doctorate, which I was awarded with distinction in 2011. I have also won a number of prestigious national research prizes and have published articles in a number of areas including laparoscopic surgery, pain relief following surgery, gallstone disease and kidney transplantation.
