Mr Misha Verkerk

Mr Verkerk is a fellowship-trained Consultant Otologist and ENT surgeon with a specialist interest in disorders of the ear, hearing and balance. He completed his medical training with First Class Honours and Distinction at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge and University College London. He underwent general medical training in Newcastle-upon-Tyne where he conducted research into the genetics of hearing loss. He was ranked first in national selection for ENT training and completed his higher surgical training in London including rotations at St George's Hospital, Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals and the Evelina Children's Hospital. He won the Gold Medal for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, achieving the highest mark in his Consultant exams. He was awarded a prestigious fellowship in advanced otology, hearing implants and skull base surgery at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He is the author of numerous peer reviewed studies in ENT surgery and has presented internationally on his research. He is the UK Director of Global ENT Outreach, a charity that improves the care of people with ear disease in low- and middle-income countries through surgical outreach and education. He holds positions on the Global Health Committee of ENT UK and the World Hearing Forum of the WHO. He holds a substantive Consultant position in Otology and ENT Surgery at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford. He is married with two children and enjoys cooking, travelling and spending time with his family.
