Professor Mihail Gatzoulis

Professor Michael A. Gatzoulis , Royal Brompton & Imperial College, London, UK   Michael A. Gatzoulis, MD, PhD, is the Academic Head of the Adult Congenital Heart Centre and National Centre for Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) at the Royal Brompton Hospital and the Professor of Cardiology, Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London. Professor Gatzoulis, originally from Greece, obtained his MD at the Aristotle University, followed by specialty training in London, UK and Toronto, Canada. He edited, co-edited or served as Section Editor for several cardiology textbooks, including his Text of “Diagnosis and Management of ACHD”, now in its 4th Edition, and authored over 450 peer-reviewed publications, including papers in NEJM and the Lancet (current h-index of 102).  Professor Gatzoulis is the Founding Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Cardiology Congenital Heart Disease, Deputy Editor of the European Heart Journal and served as an Associate/Guest Editor for most major cardiovascular journals. He has been a Visiting Professor in many Institutions worldwide, including Harvard, Stanford, the Montreal Heart, the Aristotle University and others, and runs one of the largest ACHD Training Programs in the world. He served as President of the International Society for Adult Congenital Cardiac Disease and is currently the past-Chair of the ESC WG in ACHD. His main interest is to promote education and empowerment of the ACHD patient, with a research focus on mechanisms and prevention of heart failure in CHD and the treatment of PH.
