Mr Michael Wilson is a Consultant General, Emergency and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. He is also a visiting Major Trauma Surgeon at St Mary’s Hospital Major Trauma Centre, Imperial College Healthcare Trust, London. He graduated in 2008 from Glasgow University having previously undertaken an Anatomy degree at the same institution. He completed his surgical training in General, Emergency & Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. Thereafter he completed a fellowship in Major Trauma at St. Mary’s Major Trauma Centre, London. His primary clinical interests are in gallbladder removal and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, but he also has expertise in antireflux surgery as well as all types of groin and abdominal wall hernias. Current research interests focus on developing patient centred research priorities using a modified Delphi technique. He is involved in a number of multi-centre collaborative research projects and is the Principal Investigator for the Sunflower Study in Forth Valley. He has published many articles in high impact peer-reviewed journals and delivered several presentations as an invited speaker. He is a faculty member of the world renowned Definitive Surgical Trauma Skills course, is an accredited surgical trainer and consultant appraiser and also sits on the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland Research & Education Committee. He is a member of the British Benign Upper Gastrointestinal Surgical Society (BBUGSS) council and a founding member of the international Upper Gastrointesinal Surgical Society (TUGSS). As well as being a respected surgeon, he is a father of three children and serves in the Royal Navy Reserves Medical Branch as the only consultant general surgeon.
