Dr Michael Farrugia is an experienced  Consultant Dermatologist in Edinburgh , offering specialist diagnosis and treatment at  Nuffield Health Edinburgh Hospital  and  Spire Shawfair Park Hospital,  as well as at  Lauriston Building (NHS Lothian)  in central Edinburgh where he works full time.  After graduating from the  University of Malta in 2012 , he completed his foundation training in Oxford before moving to Edinburgh, where he undertook  specialist dermatology training from 2016 to 2020 .    Comprehensive Dermatology Expertise   Dr Farrugia provides expert care across all major areas of dermatology in both the NHS and in private practice. His clinical work includes the management of:     Skin cancer , offering specialist diagnosis, dermatoscopy assessment, and  surgical treatment  for malignant and pre-malignant lesions  Severe eczema and psoriasis , including patients requiring advanced therapies such as oral immunosuppressive and biologic treatments  Acne in adolescents and young adults , offering systemic treatments such as Isotretinoin when indicated  Other autoimmune and inflammatory skin conditions,  including patients with cutaneous lupus, lichen planus, chronic urticaria (hives), hidradenitis suppurativa, amongst others   Paediatric dermatology , caring for children with rashes, eczema, birthmarks, and skin growths    In private practice, Dr Farrugia also treats a wide range of  non - cancerous skin lesions , including seborrhoeic keratoses, sebaceous cysts, skin tags, and benign moles.   He performs thorough  full - body mole checks using dermatoscopy , offering early detection and reassurance for patients concerned about changing moles.  Dr Farrugia does not offer laser therapy.     Education, Training & Leadership   Dr Farrugia holds a  postgraduate degree in clinical education , reflecting his commitment to dermatology training and teaching.
