Mr Matyas Fehervari is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon with expertise in gallbladder and bile duct surgery, anti-reflux surgery, bariatric and metabolic surgery, Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), robotic surgery and abdominal wall hernia surgery. He specialises in the treatment of gallstones, bile duct stones, acid reflux, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), hiatus hernia, obesity, complications associated with modern weight-loss medications, including GLP-1 therapies such as Mounjaro®, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and abdominal wall hernias. His practice includes: Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) Gastric bypass Sleeve gastrectomy Revisional bariatric surgery Laparoscopic and robotic gallbladder surgery Laparoscopic and robotic common bile duct exploration Laparoscopic and robotic fundoplication LINX® magnetic sphincter augmentation Hiatus hernia repair Bravo™ wireless pH capsule monitoring Oesophageal pH impedance studies High-resolution oesophageal manometry Laparoscopic and robotic abdominal wall hernia repair Mr Fehervari established the NHS Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) service, developing the clinical pathway, governance framework and training programme to introduce this innovative minimally invasive weight-loss treatment. He also has a specialist interest in managing gallstones, gallstone pancreatitis, reflux and other gastrointestinal complications associated with GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonists. Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Fehervari is an internationally recognised academic surgeon. He holds two Master’s degrees and a PhD, has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications with over 4,500 citations, and his research has received multiple national awards. His work has been published in leading international journals including The Lancet , Annals of Surgery , the British Journal of Surgery , Gastroenterology , Surgical Endoscopy and the International Journal of Surgery . He serves on the editorial team of the International Journal of Surgery and has been recognised among the world’s most highly cited scientists. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London, Clinical Lecturer, Year 5 Surgery Lead and Acute Care Block Lead at Kent & Medway Medical School, Clinical Lead for the South East Endoscopy Training Hub, and recipient of the 2025 Teaching Excellence Award. His clinical leadership roles have included serving as Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Lead for the Trust, alongside leading the development of innovative Upper GI services and surgical pathways within the NHS. Mr Fehervari’s philosophy is to offer the least invasive treatment appropriate for each patient, combining advanced endoscopic, laparoscopic and robotic techniques to deliver personalised, evidence-based care with excellent clinical outcomes.
