Mr Matthew Oakley

I grew up in Shropshire and studied Medicine at Glasgow University. I qualified in 1991 MB Ch.B.. In Scotland I started my surgical training and had excellent exposure to all branches of Surgery before settling on Orthopaedic surgery and Trauma. Over the 12 years from my medical qualification I was lucky to train in Glasgow, Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough. I also was able to undertake electives and fellowships in Vancouver, Denver, Galway and Birmingham. In 2003 I completed my specially training and came to Hereford as a Consultant. Returning to the Marches, represented a home coming, and I have worked in Hereford ever since Bringing up 2 children with my wife Katriona, whom I met in Glasgow. I have now been in Hereford as a consultant for 23 years and have had the honour of being able to help thousands of patients.

My specialist Interests include: Hip replacement Knee replacement including partial knee and custom knees, all done with enhanced recovery techniques I have a special interest in any "problem" or old knee replacements and redo (revision surgery) knee replacements. Knee repair including ligament repair/ reconstruction, all arthroscopic(key hole) surgery. Cartilage repair and osteotomy, all patella(key cap) surgery etc. I also treat acute trauma and have an interest in correcting old complex trauma deformities
