Dr Matthew Knight MBE, PGCert (Allergy), FRCP Consultant Respiratory Physician | Clinical Director of Interventional Medicine Consulting at: Clementine Churchill Hospital, Harrow and OSD Healthcare, Hemel Hempstead Dr Matthew Knight is a senior consultant in respiratory medicine and an experienced clinical leader, with a specialist interest in unexplained breathlessness, complex asthma, chronic cough, chest infections, sleep apnoea and airway allergy. He has been practising as a consultant for over 10 years and has led the development of integrated respiratory services across both NHS and independent sector settings. He is Clinical Director of Interventional Medicine at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where he also leads the respiratory department. His NHS role includes running specialist clinics for severe asthma and unexplained breathlessness, and overseeing services including lung cancer diagnostics, sleep and ventilation, pleural disease, and pulmonary rehabilitation. Dr Knight is also the Chief Medical Officer and Responsible Officer for Medefer Ltd, an independent provider delivering virtual outpatient care to the NHS, where he is responsible for clinical standards, revalidation, and medical governance across a large consultant body. His private practice includes the full range of respiratory medicine, with particular expertise in managing persistent cough, allergy-related respiratory issues, asthma that is difficult to control, and breathlessness of unclear cause. He also provides second opinions for complex or unresolved respiratory symptoms. His approach is patient-focused, using evidence-based diagnostics alongside detailed clinical assessment to develop tailored treatment plans. Dr Knight has a strong interest in clinical innovation, service redesign, and digital healthcare. He has published on virtual wards, digital outpatient models, and diagnostic testing for breathlessness. He is also involved in ongoing clinical research and quality improvement programmes. In 2023, he co-authored articles on the use of digital outpatient care in the UK and novel exercise tests for desaturation. He holds a postgraduate certificate in Allergy and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He was awarded an MBE for services to respiratory care and innovation in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2020. Outside of clinical practice, Dr Knight is actively engaged in national conversations on healthcare sustainability, digital transformation, and medical workforce development. He is frequently invited to speak at conferences and collaborates with NHS and private sector partners to improve access to high-quality respiratory care.

I am a Respiratory physician with an interest in unexplained breathlessness and cough, cardio-pulmonary exercise testing and post Covid-19 care. I work closely within an multi-disciplinary team with my colleagues from the Chest Clinic (Dr Mogal, Dr Barlow, Dr Vancheeswaran, Dr Evans, Mr Alex Newland-Smith, Mr Andre Henriques and Ms Rosie Bourke) as well as colleagues from radiology, thoracic surgery and physiotherapy.
