GMC reg: 6072673I am a Consultant Cardiologist (with a specialist interest in advanced heart failure and complex pacing/defibrillator implantation). I obtained my medical degree from the University of Leeds (2003) before completing my specialist training in Greater Manchester (accredited in cardiology in addition to general medicine). I then undertook a Post CCT-Fellowship in advanced heart failure and device therapy at Wythenshawe Hospital before taking up my first consultant post at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (Heart Failure and Device Lead). Having spent over three enjoyable years at Pennine growing the Heart Failure service, I have now taken up an exciting opportunity to work as a Consultant Cardiologist (Heart Failure and Complex Device specialist) at the world-renowned specialist cardiac center ‘Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital’. I have full accreditation from the European Heart Rhythm Association. I am currently the Cheshire & Mersey Network Lead for Heart Failure & Complex Device Therapy and the Cardiology MAC Rep at Spire Manchester. I have a strong academic background having completed a PhD at the University of Leeds. I obtained a first class honours BSc degree in pharmacology as an undergraduate, which stimulated an interest in biomedical research. Having obtained my MRCP at the earliest opportunity, I secured short-term funding through the British Heart Foundation (BHF) scholarship scheme to undertake preliminary work in the Division of Cardiovascular and Diabetes Research at the University of Leeds. I went on to secure a BHF-funded clinical research training fellowship during which time I undertook my proposed project investigating the influence of insulin-resistance on vascular regeneration alongside work looking at heart failure outcomes. I successfully completed my PhD in 2012. During my research period, I obtained over 15 publications in peer-reviewed journals. I presented my research at both national and international meetings and was a finalist for the 'British Cardiovascular Society Young Researcher Award', 'University of Leeds Post-Graduate Researcher Award', 'Diabetes UK Young Researcher Award' and winner of the 'British Atherosclerosis Young Investigator of the year Award'. Since moving to Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, I’ve also developed close links with ‘The Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science’ (LCCS). This is a collaborative research programme that brings together world-leading specialists in cardiovascular medicine. The aim is to improve the cardiovascular health in the city of Liverpool and I am excited to be a part of it. Working at Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital, I was part of the team that put in one of the first 'EV-ICDs' in the country. This novel type of defibrillator has particular advantages that may be useful in certain situations.

Cardiology - Heart Failure • Cardiology - Pacemakers & Cardiac Devices
I treat a range of cardiovascular problems like chest pain, angina, palpitations, breathlessness, dizzyness and blackouts . I specialise in heart failure and cardiac implantable electronic devices, which means I use devices like pacemakers and implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs) or biventricular pacemakers / defibrillators to treat patients with heart rhythm problems or heart failure. I offer a full package of services to my patients, including consultations, tests and treatments. My NHS base is Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, and I also treat patients at private hospitals with clinics in Manchester, Cheshire and Liverpool. As well as specialising in heart failure, I also offer heart health checks for anyone who is worried about their heart. These involve a series of tests that can identify heart problems early, or simply put your mind at ease that all is well. I understand that problems with your heart can be very worrying, and so you may have lots of questions. Myself and my team aim to respond quickly to questions or concerns. I am the Cheshire & Mersey Network Lead for Heart Failure which allows me to help develop the strategy for managing Heart Failure across our region; this is something I am incredibly passionate about. I’m proud to have taken a lead role in setting up and developing the award-winning ‘Primary Care Heart Failure Service’. This is a service that provides specialist support to GP practices, helping to identify and care for heart failure patients more effectively within the community.
