I was appointed in 2002 to further develop sub-specialisation in urological cancer surgery in Southampton. I provide services in bladder, kidney and testis cancer, and collaborate in a regional retroperitoneal cancer service (including surgery for kidney cancer with vascular invasion, and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection). Medical Director of the Wessex Cancer Alliance and member of the South East Regional Clinical Senate. Regional specialty professional advisor (Wessex and Thames Valley) to the British Association of Urological Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (to 2021). Published the first detailed description of the quality of major testicular cancer surgery (retroperitoneal lymph node dissection – RPLND) from UK cancer centres in 2017, the first such national series in the world. Facilitator within UHS for the consultant appraisal process, and consultant mentor for newly appointed colleagues across specialties.
