Mr Marley is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon who works at The Royal Bolton Hospital and Beaumont Hospital. He specialises in the surgical and non surgical management of disorders of the hip and knee.
He qualified from Queens University Belfast in 2008 and subsequently completed his basic surgical training in Northern Ireland. In 2013 he was appointed to the North West orthopaedic rotation where he completed his specialist training.
In 2018 Mr Marley was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS T&O) as well as the North West Trainee of the year award. He obtained his Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) in 2019. On completion of his training he was successfully appointed to the highly competitive arthroplasty fellowship at the world renowned Centre for Hip Surgery at Wrightington Hospital.
During his two-year fellowship, he received intensive training in the management of complex hip and knee conditions.
He has published book chapters, original research articles and has presented his work both nationally and internationally. He has a keen interest in the implementation of new surgical technologies and has presented work on 3D printing in hip surgery and the implementation of new sensor based technologies in orthopaedic rehabilitation. The latter formed the basis of his Master’s dissertation for which he received a distinction in 2020.
Mr Marley has an evidence-based practice and only uses orthopaedics implants with excellent survivorship as documented by the National Joint Registry.
In 2021 Mr Marley was appointed to the Royal Bolton Hospital and is the medical education lead for orthopaedics. He is responsible for training orthopaedic trainees and he is both a clinical and educational supervisor to junior doctors of varying levels. In may 2023 he was appointed as the Royal College of Surgeons of England Surgical Tutor for Bolton NHS Foundation Trust He has regularly been invited as faculty of specialist hip and knee courses as well as educational courses for trainees preparing for their intercollegiate exams.
