Mr Marcel Geyer — Consultant ENT Surgeon MB BS, DOHNS, FRCS (ORL-HNS) Consultant ENT Surgeon — Otology & Cochlear Implantation I am a Senior Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon at Spire Portsmouth Hospital and Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. With nearly 30 years in the NHS and 15 years as a consultant, I bring extensive experience to the care of adult and paediatric patients. Specialist Interests My subspecialty is otology — the diagnosis and treatment of ear disease. I manage the full spectrum of ear conditions including hearing loss, grommets, perforated eardrum repair, cholesteatoma, otosclerosis, cochlear implantation, bone-conducting hearing devices, and middle ear implants. I also treat balance disorders such as BPPV and Ménière's disease, and manage tinnitus. My practice covers general ENT including sinus infections, nosebleeds, tonsillitis, and ear wax. As a cochlear implant surgeon, I work closely with the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (US AIS). Training & Career I completed higher surgical training in the Wessex region, gaining my Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (FRCS ORL-HNS). Before becoming a consultant in 2010, I undertook a year-long otology fellowship in Sydney, Australia, focusing on complex ear surgery and cochlear implantation. I previously held a consultant post at Salisbury District Hospital for over a decade, where I established the local cochlear implant programme, led the ENT department during the COVID-19 pandemic, and served as lead clinician for the Spires cleft lip and palate service, twinned with Oxford University Hospitals. Awards & Recognition • 2022 — Patient-nominated Sharing Outstanding Excellence (SOX) Award, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust • 2022 — Nomination: "Unsung Contribution" Award, Clinical category, Salisbury District Hospital NHS Trust • 2017 — National Children and Young People's Survey: commended for patient care • 2015 — National Inpatient Survey: commended for patient care • 2014 — Nomination: Shine Award, High Performing Education and Training Team, Health Education Wessex • 2012 — Highly Commended, Customer Care – Individual, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust Research & Education I am committed to advancing clinical practice through research and professional development. I have published in peer-reviewed journals, delivered presentations at national and international conferences, and collaborated with colleagues across related disciplines. I regularly attend major ENT conferences to remain at the forefront of emerging treatments and surgical innovation. A Note About Me Outside of medicine, I am a keen badminton player and regularly take part in the local weekend 5km park run, which I find gives me balance and helps me bring a calm, considered approach to my work. I also enjoy spending time outdoors with my family and our dog (a flat coated retriever!) when not at work.
