Dr Lea Solman

Dr Lea Solman is a Consultant Paediatric Dermatologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where she works in both the NHS and private practice. She served as Clinical Lead for the Paediatric Dermatology Service at GOSH for four years and has been the Educational Lead for Paediatric Dermatology since 2018. With dual training in paediatrics and dermatology, she is one of only three dual-accredited consultant paediatric dermatologists in the UK. Dr Solman has a broad clinical and research interest in paediatric skin conditions, with expertise in eczema, port-wine stains, infantile haemangiomas (strawberry birthmarks), moles, and undiagnosed rashes (please see below for a full list of conditions). She has over 14 years of experience in using lasers to treat vascular anomalies in children, including early treatment of port-wine stains in infants. She has treated more infants with port-wine stains than any other clinician in the UK, making her the most experienced specialist in this area nationally. Dr Solman qualified in medicine from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2003. She completed her paediatric training in Slovenia in 2010 and took up her first post as a Consultant in Paediatrics.  In 2011, she moved to the UK, where her paediatric training was recognised, she was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatrics and she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH). She went on to undertake a post-CCT Fellowship in Paediatric Dermatology at Great Ormond Street Hospital from 2011-2014.  Motivated by a desire to offer the highest level of care to her patients, she made the difficult decision to return to training and began a full dermatology training programme in Leeds and London. She was awarded her CCT in dermatology in 2018.  During her training, Dr Solman has been awarded prestigious fellowships from both the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network (2015) and the British Society for Paediatric Dermatology (2013). She was the first author of the UK national guidelines for the treatment of infantile haemangiomas and has been invited to speak at numerous national and international scientific meetings. She has played an active role in the Executive Committee of the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Dermatology (BSPAD), both as a trainee and as a consultant representative. She is the current President of BSPAD. Thanks to her extensive and unique training, Dr Solman is able to offer the highest standard of care to children with skin conditions. Standard consultations last 30 minutes, while extended one-hour appointments are available for more complex cases.
