Dr Kevin Fai

I have been a consultant in anaesthesia and pain management since 2016. I currently am the lead clinician for pain management services at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. In recognition of my clinical and leadership, I have been elected to the role of Chairman for the South East London and Kent Spinal Network where we help to organise spinal services, both surgical and non-surgical in the whole region. To be elected to this position means that I have been recognised by my cotemporaries both in my own specialty and amongst the spinal surgical teams as being clinically experienced enough and an ability to coordinate such a large number of stakeholders including surgeons, pain specialists, physical therapy services and commissioners both at ICB and NHS England level.

Spinal pain management including disc prolpase and sciatica - this accounts for roughly 70% of my workload both in the NHS and privately. I utilise evidence based and NICE approved treatments complimented with a complete picture of overall management. It is not simply about a medicine or an injection. I place great onus on how to get the most out of any treatment working closely with rehabilitation teams. Complex Regional Pain Syndrome - this is a severe and debilitating condition which needs early diagnosis and treatment on an urgent basis to stand a good chance of helping. Again the key is rehabilitation and treatment aims are to maximise the rehabilitation. Interventional Cancer Pain Management - Working alongside oncology and palliative care colleagues in the Kent Oncology Service, I offer interventional techniques with the aim of improving the quality of analgesia in what can be very difficult times emotionally as well as physically.
