GMC reg: 3292891Mr Jonathan Lucas is a specialist Consultant Spinal Surgeon. He brings over 20 years consultant surgical experience with specific expertise in paediatric scoliosis, spondylolisthesis and deformity correction, and is Head of Service for Paediatric and Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery at Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT), and the Evelina London Children’s Hospital (ELCH). He qualified from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London University; his specialist spinal fellowship training being at The Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery, Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, and as a British Orthopaedic Spinal Fellow to the USA. He was appointed consultant in 1999, Lead Clinician for Spinal Surgery in 2006 to 2019 and now leads the Paediatric Orthopaedic and Spine Department at GSTT and ELCH. Mr Lucas is dedicated to the provision and safe delivery of the highest quality spinal surgery, working within multidisciplinary teams to optimise outcome for his patients and their families. He has published globally, on safety in spinal surgery and the results of the ELCH Paediatric Spinal Unit over the last 20 years, leading its research program. He is Editor of Aird’s Companion to Surgery, and has twice won Best Paper at the British Association of Spinal Surgeons. He lectures and teaches future generations of UK and international spine surgeons, being former AO Spine UK chairman and Education Secretary of the British Scoliosis Society.
