GMC reg: 7070412Mr Jonathan Kirk is a full-time NHS Consultant Ophthalmologist and runs a specialist glaucoma service for South East Wales, as clinical lead for the glaucoma service at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. He has expertise in managing all types of glaucoma, complex cataracts, and general ophthalmology conditions. Mr Kirk graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2010 and undertook training in Ophthalmology in the South West region including Bristol and Cheltenham. He carried out further sub-specialist training in glaucoma surgery, at both Bristol Eye Hospital and through further training within the acclaimed glaucoma clinical fellowship programme at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and member of the UK and Éire Glaucoma Society (UKEGS). Mr Kirk’s areas of interest include the surgical management of glaucoma including trabeculectomy, glaucoma laser procedures including selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), and surgical teaching. He has introduced a range of new glaucoma procedures at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, including minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) procedures, and the latest glaucoma shunt devices, with a focus on providing personalised glaucoma care tailored to individual patient needs. He performs combined cataract and glaucoma stent surgery, glaucoma drainage surgery, glaucoma laser procedures, as well as cataract surgery. In day-to-day practice Mr Kirk is involved in training of junior doctors, optometrists and nurses, including in glaucoma laser techniques, and glaucoma and cataract surgery. Through emergency ophthalmology duties he oversees treatment of a variety of acute and general ophthalmology conditions.
