GMC reg: 2526904Nick Higgins, was appointed as consultant neuroradiologist and interventional neuroradiologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge in 1997. He is a graduate of Oxford University and Guy’s Hospital Medical School. He trained in radiology after gaining postgraduate exams in medicine and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London as well as of the Royal College of Radiologists. He has considerable experience treating vascular disorders of the brain, head and neck, from which evolved a research interest in disorders of cerebral venous outflow and their relationship to disorders of intracranial pressure. In 2002 he published in the Lancet the first case of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) to be treated by stenting the transverse venous sinuses, an approach which has rejuvenated research into the aetiology of this difficult condition. More recently, the focus of his research has been to investigate possible connections between IIH, spontaneous intracranial hypotension, Chiari deformity, syringomyelia, and other unexplained conditions, such as chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia.
