I am the senior consultant in neonatal and specialist paediatric surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I trained in the South East of England training consortium.
My main areas of interest are in gastrointestinal (bowel) surgery and treating children born with abnormalities of the abdominal wall, diaphragm and gastrointestinal tract. My particular areas of expertise are in anti-reflux surgery and performing procedures for children requiring gastrostomy and jejunostomy assisted feeding. I also have expertise in lower bowel surgery including children with ano-rectal anomalies, Hirschsprung’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease. I jointly provide an MDT service for girls born with cloacal anomaly. I am part of a nationally commissioned MDT service for children with Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction.
I am highly active in training in my NHS practice. I was the training programme director for the largest training consortium in paediatric surgery in the UK. I am currently the South England representative on the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons executive committee. I am a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for paediatric surgery training within the UK. I hold a post-graduate Certificate and Diploma in medical education from the University of London. I am a member of faculty of surgical trainers at the Edinburgh College of Surgeons.
I have published over one hundred and twenty peer-reviewed articles and 16 book chapters and presented over one hundred and forty times to national and international conferences. I regularly reviews articles for journals such as the Journal of Paediatric Surgery, Paediatric Surgery International and Prenatal Diagnosis and I have been speciality editor for the annals of the Royal College of surgeons of England.
