Joanne Hancox BSc (hons) MBBS (distinction) FRCOphth Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology Joanne Hancox trained at University College Hospital London and qualified with distinction in Medicine in 1999. She trained at multiple hospitals in North and South Thames locations including Moorfields Eye Hospital, St Thomas’ Hospital, Western Eye Hospital, University College Hospital and Royal Free Hospital. She has 25 years experience in Ophthalmic surgery and completed two specialist fellowships in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Moorfields Eye Hospital. She was appointed Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2012. She has held a number of important roles in Education, she was College Tutor for a number of years and Training Programme Director for many years following this. She has a keen interest in teaching and is an Educational Supervisor. She is a lecturer for the Ophthalmology and Orthoptic MSc and City University Optometry BSc. She has been invited to lecture worldwide at International meetings in many countries. She has been the Educational Lead for the British Society of Ophthalmology and Strabismus (BIPOSA). In 2023 she organised the BIPOSA annual conference at the Royal Society of Medicine, which has been the highest attended meeting to date, with invited presenters and attendees from all over the world. Her passion is providing care and treatment to patients in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and she thrives on challenging and complex cases. She very much enjoys what she does both clinically and surgically. She has an in depth understanding, not only of the clinical but the psychosocial challenges faced by patients living with strabismus and deals with patients with empathy and compassion. She is supported by a team of other world leading experts and this enables her to provide excellent patient care and experience. Putting the patient first and adapting to individual patient and family needs is what we excel in. Every case is considered individually with bespoke advice and treatment options.

Diplopia (double vision) Eye movement abnormalities Adult cranial nerve palsies and neuro-orthoptics Convergence and accommodation anomalies High level of surgical expertise in strabismus including very complex surgical procedures and redo strabismus surgery. Extensive experience of botulinum toxin treatment for strabismus.
