Mrs Joanne Banks is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where she specialises in knee surgery, complex lower limb trauma and in particular arthroscopic/sports injuries. She also practices privately at Spire Liverpool Hospital. Mrs Banks completed her medical degree at University of Liverpool in 1997, following which she went on to undertake higher surgical training and achieved an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering from the University of Cardiff in 2006. She is a fellow the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and passed the intercollegiate exam in Orthopaedics and Trauma (FRCS Tr & Orth) in 2008. She has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon since 2009, giving her extensive consultant experience. Mrs Banks is a member a number of professional organisations including the British Medical Association, British Orthopaedic Association, British Association for Surgery of the Knee, British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association, British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine and of the 2020 Group which is a national group of specialist knee surgeons. She is keen to teach training surgeons and serves as an educational supervisor for the higher surgical trainees in the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as well as being the Training Programme Director for the Mersey Orthopaedic Registrar Training Programme. As part of her role within medical education she teaches Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Basic Surgical Skills around the country. She is also the Chief Medical Officer for British Judo, & enjoys being part of Team GB at Games & multiport events.
