Jeremy qualified in Edinburgh and carried out most of his surgical training in Merseyside. He was awarded his initial Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1993 and and final Fellowship in General Surgery in 2000. He completed a 3 year research programme into acute pancreatitis and was awarded a MD from the University of Liverpool in 1999. He has been a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals since 2002, with special interest in oesophago-gastric cancer, gall bladder, hernia and emergency surgery. He led the centralisation of oesophago-gastric cancer services in Lancashire and South Cumbria in 2008-9. He is an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and for the Inter-Collegiate Board, having sat on the General Surgery Exam Board. He was Chair of the Sub-Specialty Board in General Surgery for 6 years. Jeremy has a strong interest in training at all levels and Trainees from his Unit have gone on to Consultant posts in the North West of England and beyond. He has also run laparoscopic surgery and non-technical skills courses in Nepal, a country close to his heart, since 2013. Jeremy is also a member of the following: Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.
